Before woodworking became my profession, it was an escape from a demanding career. Many years ago, I was looking for something that would let me step away from the corporate world, clear my head, and make something with my own hands. Wood appeared naturally – first as a hobby, then as a side pursuit, and eventually as a path to a fulfilled life.
Today I know that many people arrive at woodworking in exactly the same way. That’s why a voucher for a woodworking course is not an ordinary gift. It’s an entry ticket to the world of craft – an experience that can change how you think about work, free time, and your own capabilities.
A voucher for courses at Bensari Workshop is an invitation to a real woodworking studio – a place where craft is a daily practice, not theory or a demonstration. For many participants, it’s the first moment they discover that working with wood can be calming, can teach patience, and can bring immense satisfaction from creating with their own hands.
A real woodworking studio, not a training room
Bensari Workshop is my woodworking studio in Wrocław. This is where I create collectible furniture on a daily basis for prestigious art galleries, architects, and private collectors. In the very same space, I run woodworking courses. There are no decorative workstations or workshop “scenography” here. There is real work, the smell of wood, and hand tools. Course participants learn in a place that lives and breathes craft every day, giving them immediate contact with authentic woodworking practice rather than a simulation of it.

Why I teach this way
For years I have worked using traditional woodworking techniques. I believe that in craft, the most important element is the person, and only then the tool. We guide the chisel, plane, or hammer – not the other way around. Hand tools offer precision, control, and a connection with the material that cannot be achieved through machine processing. In my courses, I teach exactly the same methods I use in my everyday work. I don’t teach “for the sake of a course”; I teach real craft – work that makes sense structurally, aesthetically, and materially.
My approach to woodworking and my projects have been presented in numerous trade and interior design publications, which for many people is an additional confirmation of my skills and experience. I am particularly proud of the publication in the prestigious magazine Fine Woodworking. In the article “Tambour Doors Now and Then”
I trace the evolution of tambour doors – from an eighteenth-century French royal desk, through modernism and Art Deco, to contemporary collectible furniture where function meets form. These are exactly the same historical, design, and technical issues I discuss during courses in my workshop, combining craft context with hands-on practice.
Another international publication that presented my work was an Architectural Digest article about the Watergate Complex Aerie project
(https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/watergate-complex-aerie-nicholas-potts). An audio cabinet made in our workshop is shown there as an example of how craft and handwork with wood function in architecture and high-end interiors – where detail, material, and quality of execution truly matter.

I also spoke about my path, philosophy of work, and return to craft in the interview “Tom Bensari – a cabinetmaker’s return to the roots” for Design Alive
(https://www.designalive.pl/tom-bensari-meblarski-powrot-do-korzeni/), as well as in the feature “DA HOME – interiors you can immerse yourself in completely”
(https://www.designalive.pl/da-home-o-wnetrzach-w-ktorych-zanurzysz-sie-bez-reszty/), which also showcased a project from Washington, D.C.
In the article “Wood that becomes art – another chapter of the ‘Masters of Matter’ series” published in Elle Decoration
(https://decoration.elle.pl/design/o-drewnie-ktore-staje-sie-sztuka-kolejna-odslona-cyklu-mistrzowie-materii-w-elle-decoration/)
I was mentioned as one of the creators for whom wood is not only a material, but a carrier of emotion, history, and craftsmanship. This is a significant distinction for me, as it confirms recognition of my journey – from the conscious, methodical study of woodworking to creating collectible furniture in the spirit of the highest-quality craft, and establishing Bensari Workshop as a place to pass this knowledge on. I believe that for course participants, these publications are a clear signal that they are learning from someone who truly practices this profession, rather than merely talking about it.
Which courses does the voucher cover?
The voucher can be used for any woodworking course from the current Bensari Workshop offer – both for people who have never worked with wood before and for those who want to deepen their skills. It includes, among others, woodworking fundamentals, work with hand planes and scrapers, traditional joinery such as dovetails and mortise-and-tenon joints, hammer veneering, steam bending, and turning.
Each course is practical in nature. Participants work with their own hands and return home with a finished project and skills that stay with them for a long time.
Who is this a good gift for?
A voucher for a woodworking course is a great gift for lovers of wood and craftsmanship, furniture restoration enthusiasts, people who work at a desk and are looking for a real break from screens, as well as for those who have been saying for years, “One day I’ll learn woodworking,” but never found the right teacher. From my experience, for many people receiving such a voucher becomes the beginning of a beautiful new journey into craft – often much longer than they initially expected.
