Tom Bensari at ASP Wrocław – craft and collectible design

Plakat wydarzenia „Praktyczne Wtorki #13” na Akademii Sztuk Pięknych we Wrocławiu zapowiadający spotkanie z projektantem i mistrzem stolarskim Tom Bensari poświęcone designowi kolekcjonerskiemu.

On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, I had the pleasure of speaking at “Praktyczne Wtorki”, a series organized by the Faculty of Furniture at the Akademia Sztuk Pięknych im. Eugeniusza Gepperta we Wrocławiu.

During the meeting, I spoke about the role of craftsmanship in collectible design and about working consciously with wood as a material. It was an important moment for me to share my professional path, as well as my approach to making and teaching, with students of interior architecture, design and scenography.

At Bensari Workshop, craft is not theory and not a demonstration prepared for a course. It is daily practice. The same space where I build collectible furniture is where I teach.

Because of this, participants do not learn isolated techniques. They learn real methods and processes that lead to the creation of a finished object.

I work with the same techniques I teach: dovetail joinery, mortise and tenon joints, hand planes and scrapers, veneering and steam bending. Each of these methods is part of my everyday work.

This is essential to me. Craft education only makes sense when it leads to real results, not abstract exercises.
