My article “Tambour Doors Now and Then” has been published in the international magazine Fine Woodworking, one of the most respected titles dedicated to the craft of woodworking worldwide. The publication explores the evolution of tambour doors, from their 18th-century French origins to their contemporary applications in furniture design, and presents my own projects that incorporate this technique.
In the article, I combine a historical perspective with hands-on design and making practice. I discuss the continuity of the ébéniste tradition and show how it can function within contemporary craftsmanship and collectible design. Tambour doors represent, for me, a solution that integrates function, construction, and aesthetics into a coherent whole.
The publication in Fine Woodworking is particularly meaningful to me, as the magazine has been one of the most important sources of knowledge for professional woodworkers and furniture makers worldwide for decades. The presence of my authored article confirms my position as both a craft practitioner and educator, while also strengthening the international recognition of Bensari Workshop as a place dedicated to learning traditional woodworking techniques.
